Houdini for free!
I've just followed a link on Daz 3d's forum about Houdini (used by the movie fx industry) having a free apprentice edition for download.
It seems a great idea for people wanting to learn this professional software without having to fork out the $$$$ price tag.
As with all free versions of high end software any renders you produce will be water marked and limited to 720x576 px output but for only $99 you can instead buy the "Starving Artist" (lol) edition that allows you to render still and animation without any watermarks and with no limit on the size of the stills (animation is limited to a respectable 1920x1080).
